We have had our server up for a few weeks now and it has remained FULL almost the entire time. The past few days has seen a drop in activity on our server. The causes for this range from Squad Death Match to Rush to Hardcore Mode to Server Lag. There is no real way to pinpoint the reason for our lower activity. However, with March Break (Spring Break) having arrived it could ALSO be a reason for the lesser crowds. Whatever the reason(s) may be it does not affect our current situation. We must decide which way our server will be dedicated too.
We either Run Hardcore or we don't.
The other options on map choices isn't too big an issue. The other issue is Server Size. I have heard many complaints about server lag when we are full at 32 man capacity and am asking if this is what we wish to keep the server running at.
Currently our 32 man BC2 Server costs us $39.95/month. Our donations are on the avg of $25 - $30 a month running us ~$10 in the red. IF we were to move to a 26 man $32 a 24 man $30 so on and so fourth. Which brings us to the poll and this thread.
It is in MY personal Opinion that we need to cut down the player capacity of our server and decide to leave Hardcore mode off (till we are able to tweak with it properly to limit snipers).
Please I would like everyone to vote and comment on the situation. We have 2 weeks (give or take) till we have to pay for our server again. I would like a decision made by this time so we can remain the same or limit the slots.
Plz choose a Server size and a HC mode only.
DISCLAIMER I did not Add Squad Death Match or Map Rotation types simply because we cannot have multiple running. We will leave it to RUSH or CONQUEST and rotate it out every day or 2 to the other mode. I've enjoyed the hard core servers I've played on. I know there can be an issue with snipers, but just leave the kill cam on if you're concerned about it.
As for size of the server, since I haven't donated in a while (I've been slacking I'm sorry!) I would say it is up more to those who have actively donated as the player size doesn't bother me much either way.
Maybe we can drop four slots (28 total) and see how it runs. I agree, I think the switching form non-hc rush to hc rush to squad dm hurts the server. I have always preferred hc mode on any fps, but the sniping in this game does get old. like you said Drac maybe their will be some additions made to the console shortly that will allow us to limit the snipers. Some of the weapons upgrades help out in the non-hc mode though.
HC mode is the best way to play this game. I've really enjoyed some of the HC games we've had, and I've enjoyed them on other servers too. If the snipers really bother you, stop playing the game like it's a COD run and gun fest (I thought this is what everyone wanted to get away from??) and try using some squad tactics to move around the maps (instead of being Rambo all the time) (btw, only a couple of times have I seen anyone on our server or in TS actually work as a squad), or maybe try some smoke when crossing the street instead of just running out in the open (and getting sniped)....oh wait that means you can't run around 40mm grenade killing everyone, like that makes for a good game right:? Don't really care what size the server is, and I know the map and game selection will get better as the admin tools get better, and the mods start showing up.

Slugo, to do this would mean having 1 squad with 2 members only on it. By Cutting out 8 slots you cut out 1 Squad PER team. While it isn't too much a bother for me to be solo , some like to be in a full squad to get GOLD Squad Pin's.
Rockn, We do work as a Squad most of the time. Situations are in TS we are split on each side and it is tough since many of us have problems with the in-game chat function.

the whole point about the snipers in hardcore isnt really getting sniped its that the whole team goes sniper and nobody moves, i like hardcore but i still want to limit the # of snipers!!!
I've been playing on the Lizard Lounge HC Rush server a fair bit and while yes a sniper fest can happen, it doesn't all that much. People realize that they don't get as many points. Other solution is the admins sending public messages telling people to play productively or get kicked. Works wonders.
